Q. Could you please introduce yourself briefly?

Hello, I’m Ji-eon Lee, working at SGS, an internationally accredited inspection, verification, testing, and certification company. SGS, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, operates 2,600 offices and laboratories worldwide. Among these, SGS Korea runs 20 offices and laboratories across the country, and I work at the Advanced Reliability Center in Dontan.

Q. What kind of work do you perform in your current team?

I work in the Energy Solution team at the Dongtan Advanced Reliability Center, focusing on seismic analysis. I handle seismic, vibration, and shock analyses for products from various industries, including nuclear and defense equipment, power facilities, railway equipment, and secondary battery facilities, following standards such as IEEE 344, AISC, ASME, and MIL-STD-810.

Q. What was the reason behind adopting NFX? 

After the Gyeongju and Pohang earthquakes in 2016 and 2017, the seismic requirements for nuclear and power facilities were strengthened, leading to increased demand for seismic verification. Consequently, in 2017, we adopted NFX, which allows for modal analysis, transient response analysis, and response spectrum analysis to identify dynamic characteristics and prove structural integrity against earthquakes.

Q. Why did you choose NFX among various CAE products? 

Performing seismic analysis requires creating Response Spectrum Analysis (RSA) for each product, which involves a lot of time considering different standards. We learned that NFX has a Design Spectrum feature that automatically generates response spectra for seismic loads, significantly improving our work efficiency, which is why we chose it.

Q. How is NFX being utilized? 

NFX is used for analytical seismic verification of power and secondary battery facilities. When the size or weight of the equipment needing seismic verification exceeds the testing table's capacity, we approach it analytically. Using NFX, we conduct finite element modeling, structural analysis, and dynamic analysis to assess the material and structural integrity of the equipment against earthquakes.

Q.  What changes have occurred after adopting NFX? 

When performing seismic verification, various types of analyses such as static analysis, modal analysis, transient response analysis, and response spectrum analysis are conducted. NFX allows us to perform all these analyses simultaneously in a single working environment, significantly reducing the analysis time.
